NAMI California is a statewide grassroots organization established over 28 years ago to educate, inform and support families and individuals impacted by serious mental illness. NAMI California’s mission is to advocate for lives of quality and respect, without discrimination and stigma, for their constituents. NAMI California promotes the empowerment of individuals with mental illness and their families and provides leadership in advocacy, policy development, education and support throughout California.
NAMI California membership includes families and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness and is comprised of 76 local affiliates representing over 16,500 people throughout California. Local NAMI affiliates meet regularly to offer education and support for families and individuals. Local affiliates also provide a variety of community education programs, speaker’s bureaus, and educational materials that compliment the statewide efforts of NAMI California.
NAMI California brings its wealth of experience in promoting help, hope and healing for those affected by serious mental illness to Working Well Together and to the WWT TAC. With an emphasis on eradicating stigma, NAMI California embraces the opportunity to add the perspective of families and individuals with mental illness to our solid relationships with local mental health and Mental Health Service Act (MHSA) leaders.
