Guy struggling with an eating disorderRetired professional tennis player Monica Seles opened up about her binge eating disorder in her book entitled, “Getting a Grip: On My Body, My Mind, My Self.” Though she was one of the greatest players of all time to grace the sport, she had a tough battle against the disease.

Seleswas reported to have kept her struggle in secret, and nobody knew she was suffering because she seemed normal at the dinner table but ate copious amounts behind everyone’s back.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, some 2.8% of the adult population in the US is likely to suffer from binge eating disorder. Symptoms include eating fast and large amounts during binge episodes and feeling ashamed or guilty afterwards.
