Invisalign Itero: 3D digital dentistry

Dentist checks woman's teethOne less efficient part of getting Invisalign clear aligners is the use of teeth impressions to get accurate measurements of the teeth from which to create the aligners. The putty used is messy and it can be a bit panic-making when a whole lump of it is pushed hard up against the palate to get accurate impressions. People can feel briefly that they are going to suffocate.

However, digital dentistry has solved that issue with the introduction of the Invisalign Itero in London. This hand-held digital scanner is in use by various Invisalign accredited dentists in London, such as Dr Graham Tinkler.

TheInvisalign Itero in Londonspeeds up the whole consultation process, making it much more comfortable and convenient. The Itero scanner was developed by Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign clear aligners. In London, Invisalign Itero is an optical scanning wand that creates fully-realised, 3D digital models of the teeth, jaws and bites.

The Itero technology

The compact hand-heldItero scanner useswith a radiation-free laser to take hundreds of pictures of the structure of the teeth and gums. It is completely safe to use and once the scanning process has begun, it can be stopped and started as many times as necessary.

Scanning takes as little as two to three minutes, and the pictures are turned into a digitally perfect, 3D impression of the teeth and soft tissue structures which can be viewed from a variety of angles on the nearby computer screen. The Itero scanner can be used for other treatments as well.

This fast and easy-to-use scanner creates models of the teeth that are much more accurate than traditional dental impressions. The digital information can also be sent to the Invisalign labs in the US much more quickly than putty moulds, so the process of making the aligners is much quicker, meaning patients do not have to wait as long before receiving their aligners.

Invisalign aligners are an innovative tooth straightening treatment consisting of a series of clear, customised, plastic aligners that gradually move the teeth into their correct position. The aligners are removed for eating and cleaning.
